Motherhood between windmills and tulips

Caring for family from across the oceans

There’s a quiet weight that comes with living far from home — something only fellow OFWs and expat Filipino moms truly understand.

Most days, our life here abroad is busy and full. We’re busy raising our kids, keeping our homes clean and safe, running on coffee (sometimes skipping breakfast!) and trying to have a good balance between happiness and messiness that comes with motherhood in another country.

But there are moments, especially for me po recently, when the distance feels extra heavy.

One of my brothers back home in the Philippines is currently in the hospital and just got out of critical care. Like many families there, he’s having to pay out of pocket for his medical care — from his laboratory tests to his medications and throughout his nursing care and therapy. And because of his rare diagnosis, his hospital bill has been extra expensive that it’s been very overwhelming. And being so far away from them makes me feel helpless. But I know that there’s still one thing I could do for him from afar, aside from some financial assistance and our sincere prayers.

I set up a GoFundMe to support my brother during this difficult time. It’s something I have quietly added here on my blog, in case you feel moved to read, share, or lend support in your own way. Every share, prayer or donation — no matter how small — will mean more than a lot to me and my family.

Thank you for being part of this space where I can share both the joyful and the hard parts of life abroad. God bless!
